Giants Pre-Season Projections: Can Big Blue Win the NFC East?
The New York Giants come into the 2026 season with the highest expectations they’ve had in years. With a young, promising QB and a Super Bowl-winning head coach at the helm, Giants fans expect their first playoff appearance since 2023. New York had a very productive offseason, signing WR Darnell Mooney, LB Tremaine Edmunds, and TE Isaiah Likely, while adding LB Arvell Reese, G Francis Mauigoa, and WR Malachi Fields in the NFL Draft. Although they made some strong additions, the biggest move of the offseason for the Giants was trading away 3-time Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals.

What to Expect From the Giants
The Giants have the best roster and coaching staff they’ve had since their last Super Bowl win in 2012. Hiring John Harbaugh and selecting one of the best defensive players in the NFL Draft should have Giants fans excited for the upcoming season. The goal for this Giants team is to make the playoffs and, hopefully, make a run, but if Jaxson Dart is the QB many think he can be, New York could contend for the NFC East title.
The Giants' offense was very injured last season, losing WR Malik Nabers to a torn ACL, RB Cam Skattebo to a severe ankle dislocation, and Dart to a concussion. Those three players are the most important pieces of the Giants' offense this season. Dart, in 12 games started last year, combined for 2759 yards and 24 touchdowns to just 10 turnovers. Dart produced these numbers without his No. 1 wide receiver for most of the season, which should give Giants fans strong optimism about their team heading into the 2026 season. With Nabers and Skattebo now healthy and ready for Week 1, the former Ole Miss QB should have no issue expanding upon his strong rookie season.
The Giants' defense struggled last year under Shane Bowen’s final season as defensive coordinator. New York allowed the seventh most points (25.8) and the sixth most yards per game (359.5) in the NFL. The additions of Reese and Edmunds, as mentioned before, along with re-signing standout LB Micah McFadden, should help Big Blue’s defense progress from last season. New York’s new defensive coordinator, Dennard Wilson, will have to lean on his new additions to help reform a defense that gave up almost 360 yards a game. If there is anything that will hold the Giants back from making the playoffs and a chance at winning the NFC East, it will be the defense. The Giants' season rides on the health of their young offensive stars and the defense's ability to improve on a rough season.

Projected Win-Loss Record
Using a regression model, we found that passing yards and touchdowns, rushing yards and touchdowns, field goals made, penalty yards against, and sack yards lost on offense were the most important factors to winning games. On defense, passes defended, sack yards, QB hits/knockdowns, and interceptions were the most important components. After projecting how the team will perform in those key areas, we predict the New York Giants will finish with a 9-8 record this season. Below is a week-to-week prediction of how the season will go for Big Blue:
